Waste Incentives Program
Afribit tackles Kibera's waste crisis by attaching clear Bitcoin incentives to collection and recycling. Participants earn sats based on the quantity and quality of the waste they collect, while the neighborhood benefits from cleaner streets, drainage, and public spaces.

Circular resilience in practice
The Waste Incentives Program uses Bitcoin rewards to turn cleanup work into income, motivating youth and community members to collect, sort, and route waste toward recycling, upcycling, or safe disposal.
“When Afribit introduced Bitcoin to our waste management group, I was immediately hooked. I have been earning and stacking sats regularly. I also joined the Core Bitcoin Classes to deepen my understanding. It is about financial freedom.”

How the system works
The incentive loop is simple, transparent, and repeatable.
Registration & Training
Collectors register, receive Bitcoin wallets, and learn sorting, safety, and environmental best practices.
Collection & Sorting
Participants gather waste from assigned zones and separate materials into reusable categories.
Weighing & Verification
Afribit verifies the collected materials and confirms quality before rewards are issued.
Bitcoin Payment
Collectors receive Lightning payments based on weight and material type using transparent rates.
Processing & Recycling
Materials move to recycling, upcycling, or safe disposal partners, closing the loop.
Payment structure
Reward rates give collectors a clear reason to participate consistently.

Why this matters
Afribit programs work because they connect real livelihoods to repeatable Bitcoin use. Funding helps keep training, tools, and field execution close to the community.
